Civic Engagement
From federal immigration laws to potholes and bus service, our lives are affected daily by the elected officials who represent us. Civic engagement means being involved in the civic life of your community - through voting, public forums, marches and demonstrations, volunteering, and much more. It means working together with friends, family, and your community to make change in a way you couldn't do alone.
Civic engagement is a vital component of OneAmerica's work, both in providing the basis for effective policy advocacy, and in connecting immigrant communities with the decision makers who affect their lives. Some key things we do:
- Register voters - over 23,000 to date! Are you registered to vote at your current address?
- Work with new voters so they are informed on the issues and know how to make their vote count. Click here to find out way to fill out your ballot so it will be sure to be counted!
- Hold trainings to build skills. Learn more about becoming a member and training opportunities.
- Build leadership among community members.
- Engage community members in legislative action days, where the direct concerns of their community can be brought to city council members, state legislators, and other elected representatives. Do you know who your lawmaker is?
- Hold public forums, where community members can share concerns and make sure their representatives are accountable to their concerns.
We look forward to having you join in making sure that all voices are heard in our democracy.
